Music, Literature and Dance as an art form

Music

Epperson (n.d) defined "Music" as an art that is concerned with connecting vocal or instrumental sounds to form an aesthetic or emotional expression that is primarily based on cultural standards of rhythm, melody, music, and harmony.
I do not even know how my relationship with music started. I vividly remember when my mom scolded me when I did not hear what she said because I am listening to a song with my earphones at max volume. Ever since I got the chance to have a phone that can store music locally, I surround myself with songs in different genres. At first, I mostly listen to POP or Popular songs because it was just what you can hear when everyone decided to play music.
As I grow up, I discover how to get music in a more efficient way that was made possible by using "Youtube" at the time where I only rely on getting songs with friends through Bluetooth. At that moment, it eventually leads to me interacting with other people through sharing the type of music that we enjoy. Utilizing what Youtube can do, I became immersed with different genres that the people who surrounded me did not even know exists, or they do not care about those types of music.
I discovered K-POP or Korean pop through youtube, and it was a time where there are only a few people who listen to this type of genre because it was in a different language that even I do not understand. The k-pop genre became so much popular nowadays, and it was also thanks to Youtube that gives a platform for other types of genres that can also influence the taste of people in music. This genre has a significant impact on my daily life because I consistently listen to it daily. Immersing myself in a different genre and another language created a domino effect on my taste in music. I learned how not to limit myself in a single type of genre but to explore more because there is already a way to do it easily by using the technology that I already own.

Listening to music helps me to deal with the stress that I encounter every day. I use it when I am cleaning or doing anything productive because it is more enjoyable to do when you have something you can listen to. As an individual who reads books to imagine a different perspective of life, I can also do it through listening to music. Many scenarios are happening inside my brain when I listen to music, and it has a direct connection to my mood. When I am sad, I tend to lean on painful types of songs, and this might be a little weird, but I use music as a coping mechanism. When I am happy, I usually pick out my favorite songs.

Music has a significant impact on my life. I do not see myself in the future without having any music that I can listen to. Some thoughts sometimes came up to my mind that I tend to get sad when I think off. I am not particularly good at any musical instrument, and it is a shame because of the love that I have for music. With that said, I am grateful to have a set of ears that can audibly hear pieces of music because I would be depressed if there would be the time that I could use my ability to hear.

Literature

When people think about what art is, they mainly refer to illustrations, paintings, etc. There are different kinds of art that we can enjoy learning, use and make. I think one form of art that I lean on is Literature. Books are something that makes me happy regardless of the genre. At first, I didn't think it was a form of art, but I can see why Literature can be considered art as I grow up. Art is something that communicates between the artist and the audience. When an author writes, the words that he constructed creates a story to speak to the readers. In this way, the author's story can be a way for the readers to produce a picture of characters, visit new places, and find meaning through the writing of what they read (Connecting Literature to Other Art Forms, 2014).

Before I discovered the importance of reading, I did not see the purpose of having to go through those thick books and spending your time finishing them because I thought it would be just a waste of time. As with any art, the time you consume on immersing yourself and understanding the art itself can take up valuable time. It is a good thing that I know how significant reading is to your development as an individual. When I was just a teenager, I spent time reading young-adult and fiction books. The books that I consumed had a substantial effect on how I see the world. My imagination became a lot better because I needed to imagine the characters and the scenarios I read to comprehend the story better.

Through the years, I experimented with different types of genres at the same time that I also did with my music (if you read the “Music as an art form” blog entry that I made, you can see that I mentioned the same experience that I also branch out with genres.) I became somewhat tired of reading the same genres that I consumed when I was in my early teens, so I decided to explore what other genres might give out a new experience and information that I can’t find in my favorite genres. I started to find non-fiction books that can help me to discover the real world instead of immersing myself in fictional scenarios that can’t happen to my life.

I decided to branch out in different genres because it also became toxic to my life. I realize that I tend to create scenarios in my life that are impossible to happen because of my vivid imagination. For this reason, I became sad at times, and it is excellent that I recognized this trait of mine because I think it would become a way for me to get depressed. Another reason for me to explore is that I wanted to experience a different kind of writing style. If you are a bookworm ( a term for individuals who like to read,) you know that the authors' styles can seem identical, and as someone who also reads to improve his writing, I want to discover how different it can be when you read in other genres.

As you can see in the way I describe literature, it is safe to say that it is evident in my life. I can't imagine how different my life would be if I didn't start appreciating the literature's benefits in how I progress as an individual. I was not gifted in visual arts, so I am satisfied with how literature is the kind of art that I can be somewhat inclined to become a decent artist if you call it.

Dance

Dance is an art form that I enjoy the most, even though I am not that good at it. When I was just in elementary school, I joined a pageant for Mr & Ms name of the school. For the talent portion, I danced with my friends because it was when I realized I could not sing for my life. I enjoyed the moment when I danced with my friends because we practiced for it and interacted with each other in the best way possible and I remember them because of it. When I grow up, I will somewhat join dance groups in high school because I transferred from a public to a private school that I know will have organizations. It didn’t end up in what I expected because of my issues.

I experienced being bullied in high-school, and it broke my self-esteem badly; that is why I turned to Literature because, in that way, I will avoid being confronted with my looks. I was targeted for all the things that I do, so I stopped my plans to join dance groups. I did pretty much lay low in high school, and the classmates and friends that I made in those times didn’t know I am somewhat a dancer before I transferred schools.

I know that you need to have the confidence to look good when dancing while doing it. While my confidence is at an all-time low, I still dance when I'm with myself. It became a hobby to dance with the music that I love and create moves only by listening to the song's beat. I mostly lean on dances with hip-hop, r&b, and k-pop type of songs, and it is hard to explore with different genres because I tend to dance with the music that I love. It is enjoyable for me to use dance to break away from the stress of life and do something physical for my health.

Different genres of dances are fascinating to watch but very hard to do and look good at it. There is a dance show in Korea called "Hit the Stage" where k-pop idols compete with their dance skills, and you can see the individual differences of the contestants and how the talent of one shines through their hard work and concept that they show for the audience. There is a realization that I got while watching that show, and it's where a dancer can be great at a particular genre, but being a versatile one would be much better than staying at the comfort of the genre you are good at. You need to show emotions and skills for the audience to grasp the concept you are showing them

Here are some dances that I like because of different reasons like skills, uniqueness, concept and etc. Click HERE
